Surprise!

A month had gone by and the two of them were trying to steal time with one another when they could. The only problem Ellie had was when she had gotten her period for the first after they had made love was brutal. It lasted for over a week and she bled so hard at one point Marsha wanted to take her to the hospital because she was afraid she was hemorrhaging. Marsha had called her Mom Cecilia and she told her to just elevate her legs and to give her the Motrin her doctor gave her. Plus her migraines were through the roof. John was trying to come over every day to see her, some days she was sleeping and some not. But he was there. He told her that he was sorry that he did this to her and she balled him out saying that it took two and that she wouldn’t change one damn thing. And that she has bad periods anyway so he’ll just have to live with it.

They were going to close the local drive-in and John wanted to take advantage of it before they did. It was the middle of the week and he had the day shift at the store this week so he wouldn’t have a problem going with Ellie. He was having cereal and his coffee when his Mom came into the kitchen.

“Hello Honey getting ready for work?” she asked him.

“Yeah.” He said while swallowing.

Turning around on the stairs, “What? No I’m going out with Ellie tonight or am I grounded?” he spat back at his mother.

“Don't you talk to me like that young man. All I’m doing is trying to talk to you. I just can’t see why you can’t stay home for once and be with your family that’s all?” she asked her son.

“Well maybe because you don’t like Ellie for one and two you keep reminding how she’s only here for a little bit I want to spend all my time with her how’s that?” he reminded her.

“First of all I never said that I didn’t like her John I just don’t want to see you hurt that’s all.” She told him.

“Mom you can’t stop that from happening just like you can’t stop that from happening with Tony and Matty. It’s going to happen. You have to let go.” He told her.

“Well you just wait when it’s your time and see if you can, then you’ll understand.” She said.

John just rolled his eyes at his Mom and headed upstairs to get dressed. He didn’t need to be late because his manager was a pain in the ass. He just wanted this day to fly by so he could be with his girl. It was bad enough that the last two days he got there by the skin of his teeth because he didn’t get in until two in the morning as he had played The Fast Lane and nearly over slept. His manger was just looking for anything to fire him because he was attracting more females into the store than normal. John felt it was due to his following at The Fast Lane and from school, his Mom and word of mouth.

Meanwhile Ellie was going thru the same crap as she always did at the clinic. Her doctor had talked to her about her spike in her migraines a week ago when she had her period with her migraines and the week after. He had asked if she had done anything different in her routine only because this was a big spike since the last two months and wanted to know if there was something she might have done like eating something, doing any exercises that maybe she wanted to lose weight now that she had a boyfriend, and then the big question was she having sex with him. She asked what would that have to do with anything and how it would affect her system. He told her in the long run it wouldn’t but the first time it could cause her to have a rough period and may have trigger her to have her migraines since she never experienced it before. She also asked either way would her parents know any of these conversations. He told her unfortunately that she is still under age and that yes they get a full report of everything they discuss. So she had to think fast. So she had to do what she thought was right for her and she told the doctor that she was exercising to lose weight only because her boyfriend was a singer in a band and was around beautiful girls most of the time and she felt insecure around them so she thought that if she lost some weight she would feel better about herself. Her doctor told her he thought it was something like that and told her that she would have to start eating right and that he would have a talk with Marsha about that. She felt she dodge a bullet on that one and went out to the lobby. After he talked to Marsha they left for home. When they got home with a lecture about not eating Ellie went to her room. Well it could have been worse she could be on her way home she guessed. She decided to take a nap this day was just one that was just to tiring.

It was late afternoon and John finally got out of work and it couldn’t have been a minute to soon. His manager was giving him a hard time as a couple of girls had come in to look at some shoes and busted one of the clerks by trying on about half a dozen, each and didn’t buy any but to only stare at John the whole entire time. It was John’s job to retrieve the shoes from the back if the sizes weren’t already out. He didn’t even bother to go home and change he didn’t want to go at it with his Mom again so he just drove his car into the Levine’s driveway instead. Getting out he went to the front door and knocked.

“John Hi I take it you want to see Ellie?” Marsha asked him looking him up and down.

“Yeah is she home?” he asked her.

“Of course she is come on in and I’ll get her.” Marsha told him as she went to get Ellie.

While waiting for Ellie John was playing with the kids as they came down the hall. Ellie and Marsha saw them and grinned. “Hey handsome whatcha doing?” Ellie asked him still smiling.

“What does it look like I’m doing beautiful?” he told her back as he got up.

Marsha took the kids and brought them in the kitchen with her so they could talk.

Walking over to her and holding her hands he asked her, “So do you feel like going out tonight?”

“Actually I do I need to talk to you.” She told him looking a little concerned.

Feeling that something was wrong he asked her, “Are you ok? Is something wrong?” he asked concerned.

“No not with me but I just need to talk to you that’s all ok?” she told him.

“Yeah sure Baby no problem. I thought we could go to the drive-in again one last time there closing it for the season.” He told her still looking concerned.

“Great that sounds good.” She said and went to get her sweater.

Ellie told Marsha they were going out for the night and that she would be home later. They didn’t talk much on the way to the drive-in as they both had a lot on their minds. Once there John parked neared the back and in the corner so they would be out of the way. He went and got some refreshments and came back before the first movie even started.

“Ok we have food and I’ve got the girl so I think we’re all set. So what’s up Baby?” he asked her.

“Well I went to the clinic today and well Marsha ratted me out about the last two and half weeks. So I had to think fast because the doctor was asking me a lot of questions on my migraines and periods and why I was bleeding so bad.” She told him.

“No but he asked me straight out if I had sex because if I was a first timer that could cause me to be in that much pain get it! And if I told him yes then he would have to tell my parents then they would ship me home a.s.a.p.” she explained to him.

“Oh God no we don’t want that. So what did you tell him?” he wanted to know.

“Now don’t get mad ok? But I said that I have this boyfriend and that you were in this band and you didn’t care but I did and that you have all these little girlies hanging on you so I was kind of on a diet and wanted to lose weight. Because he said losing weight could also cause that too. So now I got Marsha watching me like a hawk making sure that I eat properly. So if she says anything to you just tell her that I did eat ok?” she told him.

“So you used me as your excuse now did you?” John asked her with a sly look.

“Well yeah I had to if I didn’t we’d get busted. I’m under age remember?” she said panicky. John started to laugh. “What’s so damn funny?” she wanted to know.

“Oh Baby I’m only teasing but maybe seeing that you could of gotten me in trouble too I should give you a spanking.” He told her as he moved closer to her with a very wicked look on his face.

Ok look let’s not get ahead of ourselves we’ll worry about it if it happens. Now come here and kiss me.” He told her. She did what she was told and started to relax as she melted into him. “Don't I know it. My Mom tells me almost everyday.” John said sarcastically. “Hey speaking of spending money what do you say we go and get something to eat I’m starving for some reason.” He said to her smiling. She just laughed. They got dressed and went out for pizza.

A few days went by and John tried to spend as much time with Ellie as he could. Between working at the shoe store and then working with the guys at night they squeezed as much time as they could.

What they didn’t know was Ellie’s doctor was compiling a report on her for her parents on her results and if they have found any triggers to her migraines and a possible resolution to them. Once he finished he would send them off to them and they would have to come and have a meeting with them and make the decision whether they would want her to stay another couple of months or maybe six.

Cecelia and Paul and gotten the report and had gone thru it like a fine tooth comb. It basically told them nothing new. And everything that Ellie was complaining about. She had felt that it was doing nothing for her except picking at her and making her feel like she was making it up most of the time. They were telling her that it was due to stress which she told her parents of course it’s stress because she didn’t want to be there and that yes it did have to do with her period they already knew that also. But they were putting her thru those tests anyway that she was already put thru in the first place. She also told her parents the only bright side to this whole thing was is that she had found her friend John to get her thru this.   

Cecelia had called the clinic and had made plans to come for them to go over Ellie’s medical records and to discuss what to do next in her treatment. But she had a feeling what her husband wanted to do. They didn’t want to tell their daughter yet what was going on so they told the doctor to keep quiet until they decided what they wanted to do.

Meanwhile they were having another under eighteen night at The Stone Pony this time and John couldn’t wait to take Ellie and hopefully have a better time than the last. So Friday night came about and this time he picked her up not taking any chances.  When they got there he took her with him and set her up at the first table in front with a soda so she could see him helping out setting up everything and they could talk while he did it. “Carol what does that got to do with it? She lives right next door to us so we know where they went and what time they got home. And he got home about the same time as he always does so what’s the point in pointing it out?” John wanted to know.

“Just that he’s falling for her really bad John and when she leaves he’s going to fall really hard and I don’t want to see him hurt that’s all.” Carol told her husband.

“You mean when Dorothea broke his heart? Carol any girl can do that and you know that. Why is it that this girl is bothering you so much?” he asked his wife.

Carol looked at her husband, “Because there is a one percent chance and I do mean a one percent chance John that he may not get out of here and be stuck with a nine to five job right? And if he does she’ll be back in Massachusetts and won’t even remember him, they’ll both go on with their lives and get married, have kids and so on. Or he’ll become a famous rock star and won’t even remember her name because he’s living the life and not going to give everything up just to be with her. Or she might be with someone when he decides to find her when he makes it big. You don’t know so I’m just sparing him the heartache now what’s so bad about that?” she asked him.

“Because it’s their decision Carol not yours. So as of now I want you to butt out of it do you understand me?” he told her flat out.

“But John…” she started to say.

“No butts Carol I mean it. He’s a big boy and he needs to start thinking on his own. Because I’ve contacted Tony my cousin and he’s thinking about hiring John when he turns eighteen at The Power Station. But don’t tell him yet ok? He hasn’t made up his mind yet. I still need to talk to him about it. He’s still on the fence about it but I’ll get him to do it. He still owes me a few favors. Plus once John gets there he won’t be disappointed. Then they can make up their own minds.” He explained to his wife. Carol was all excited and hated to keep this secret from her son but she knew not only would it be a great surprise for him but a great help in his career.

Fall had been coming in now and so had the cool weather. Ellie did bring some warmer clothes with her but she knew she would have to call her parents to send some of her warmer things to her cousins and her winter coat. She would have to call them this week so she could receive them soon. Marsha was letting her borrow one of her coats for now seeing it was starting to get cold at night. Ellie wasn’t feeling that well today, Tommy had come down with something and she thought she was also getting it. Pretty soon Katie would be getting it too. She would have to tell John to stay away for a few days or he would get it also. Crap!

She heard the doorbell ring and immediately thought that John would want to go out and now she can’t. She walked over to the door feeling bad and well…bad. But when she opened the door she got the surprise of her life.

“Mommy! Daddy! What are you doing here?” she asked them.

“Sweetheart.” Cecelia said as she grabbed her and hugged her tight. When she was finished Paul took over and hugged her just as tight also.

“So aren’t you going to invite us in?” her Dad asked.

“Oh yes come on in Marsha is going to be so surprised.” Ellie told them.

Walking in they asked her where she was. Ellie told them that she was down in the basement doing wash as the kids were taking their nap. “Well that’s good Ellie we need to talk to you and Marsha so could you go get her please.” Her Dad asked her. Ellie went down stairs and told her that her parents were upstairs and wanted to see them. Marsha put down what she was doing and they went upstairs. Ellie looked at her cousin and realized that she didn’t seem surprised that her parents just showed up unannounced.

Once upstairs Marsha greeted her Aunt and Uncle. They told her they wanted to wait for Michael to get home before they started. Marsha told them that he should be getting home around five. Ellie sat and told her parents what was going on there in New Jersey and how she and her friend John were more than friends. Her mom thought so by the way Ellie would talk about him to her. Her parents filled her in on her siblings and how her Aunt and Uncle were watching them and how Tommy was staying with his Grandparent’s until they got back.

Five O’clock finally came and a little after Michael came thru the door. After greeting him they all sat down in the living room and Paul started. “Sweetheart we were at the clinic today. They had sent us all the data from the months that you have been here and when you have been complaining that you didn’t think any of this has been working for you, you’re Mother and I told them we wanted something to look at. So that’s when your doctor sent us all your paperwork. Then we made an appointment with him to go over all of it with him. And after talking with Marsha and Michael we’ve come to a decision. We agree with you, we don’t think they’re helping at all. So we’re taking you home with us.” Paul explained to his daughter.
